The Dolphins have failed to fire this season after promising so much in the pre-season.
Close losses have continued to haunt the club, especially at home and they will have a final chance to give their home supporters a reason to cheer.
Coach Mark Champion said the side would be buoyed by last week’s morale-boosting 66-56 victory over North Sydney.
“We didn’t start that well last weekend, but we played really hard and that probably got us over the line,” he said.
The Dolphins shot at just 31 per cent from the field, but they made up for their shortfalls in attack with a solid defensive performance.
Champion knows they will again need a similar defensive performance against the ladder-leading Tamworth Thunderbolts.
“We usually play well when our backs are to the wall so we will have to try to make it really hard for them this weekend,” he said.
“We’ve come up with just the four wins this season and we’ll aim to win at least half of our remaining games on the way home.”
Port Macquarie has only registered the one home victory this season and Champion admitted they wanted to go out on a high.
“We need to give our home fans something to cheer about because they haven’t had much,” Champion said.
Saturday’s match will be played at the indoor stadium with tip-off at 6pm.
